Grassroots to Glory: Aquatic Sports

From water skiing to surfing, to lifesaving and outrigging, the exhibition is a celebration of Sunshine Coast aquatic sports.

Grassroots to Glory: Aquatic Sports

The Sunshine Coast has long been known for its pristine beaches and waterways. Residents and holidaymakers alike have played in the sand, swum in the surf, and camped and bathed in the hinterland streams and waterfalls. Local involvement in aquatic sports and activities grew from interacting with the water, sometimes in ways that combined the practical (such as transportation, and fishing for food) with fun.

Grassroots to Glory: Aquatic Sports celebrates sporting activity and achievements at Sunshine Coast beaches, waterways, and pools. This exhibition shares stories of local aquatic sports, from recreational fun and social clubs to grassroots development and international success. The exhibition focuses on the Sunshine Coast and the stories, objects, and people who have inspired, fostered, and promoted aquatic sports for all ages and abilities.
