Glasshouse Mountains Flora Workshop
The Glass House Mountains are like beacons, visible from many parts of the southern Sunshine Coast and islands. They are of deep spiritual importance to the Kabi Kabi and Jinibara people. On their steep, rocky slopes are beautiful, tough plants. Many of these are endemic, found only on the Glass House Mountains, and no-where else in the world. Join Rowena Thomas and Hilary Pearl for a two hour workshop learning some of these plants. Rowena is a co-author of the “Ranger Field Guide to the Native plants of the Glass House Mountains National Park”. Hilary studied several areas of montane (mountain) heath as part of her recent PhD project. Just why are there so many endemic species on these mountains? Why are these areas so important for conservation? How do we look after these areas into future? And, yes, you can grow many of these species in your garden! We recommend you bring a pen, a torch (or a phone with a torch), and your own eye lens if you have one. Magnifying lenses and eye lenses will be available to use, and worksheets will be supplied. Come and join us for this very special workshop.
