Elevated river levels and flooding across Maroochy catchment

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued an Initial Flood Warning for the Maroochy River and Sunshine Coast Council is urging residents to stay off the roads, if possible.

Maroochy River:
Since 9 am Friday, more than 100 mm of rainfall has been recorded across the Maroochy River catchment.

This rainfall is in addition to the almost 90 mm recorded in the previous 24 hours and has led to minor flooding and rapid river and creek level rises across the upper and lower Maroochy River.

Mooloolah River:
Rapid river level rises are occurring along the Mooloolah River.

Coochin Creek:
Minor flooding and rapid creek level rises are occurring along Coochin Creek.

With the ground already soaked and waterways swollen, authorities predict more rain could significantly impact areas across the Coast, causing flash flooding.

Roads will be slippery so please take care and have patience.

Remember, if it’s flooded, forget it.

Residents are urged to stay vigilant and tune into warnings and advice from emergency services and authorities, plus the local emergency broadcaster ABC.

The community is also urged to access weather warnings and road closures at Council’s Disaster Hub at https://disasterhub.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au/.
